DOPE LASU@ ONE
Dope Lasu
is the name of a brand in Lagos State University. The word Dope can be
interpreted in several ways. However the context in which we use it is
“the slang context” .When something is exquisite, when it is cool, when
it looks so good , it gets you saying WOW” you say its “DOPE”.
The brand
was created June 12th 2015 with the opening of our first instagram
handle “@dope__lasu” (2underscores). Dope lasu was created to promote
LASU and rebrand the mentality people have about our school. A lot of
people think all we ever do in LASU is cultism and strike. We at Dope
lasu decided to change that mentality through the use of social media.
We promoted and showcased Lasuites who were not just only fashionable,
talented but also those who are intelligent. We also promote brands,
creativity; encourage young entrepreneurs within and outside Lasu. Dope
lasu was opened in other to create a close relationship between the
students amidst of other things “Our Aim is TO PROMOTE, CONNECT AND
UNITE LASUITES”
We
introduced terms like “Dope lasuites, the beautiful ones in lasu, real
niggas in lasu , tell a friend to tell a friend about dope lasu” and
today lasuites use these terms on social media as they now trend . We
were not the first Lasu page on social media however we are loved by
several Lasuites. Before January first 2016 Dope lasu was handled by two
persons. However by January first 2016,
A team of 8persons was created and they include
1) Mariam Yussuff- @mahr33ham
2) Ofuani chinedu – @themainchris_
3)Abiodun olamide – @midey_millz
4) Adewale salau – @kvngsalau
5) Badiru yewande – @dudulewami
6) Willams Emmanuel- @willz_Jamal
7)Campbell eniola- @_fikunmi
8)Fatimehin ikeoluwaa – @_arifay
Each
person being a student in Lasu, representing their various faculties,
thus the DOPE FAMILY became a bigger one. By February this year we got a
direct message from Wema bank via instagram. They wanted us to work
with them for the Orientation for fresh students, after the interview at
the Wema Lasu branch. We hadcontract with them and thus the Dope Lasu team members became Wema ambassadors.
1) Mariam Yussuff- @mahr33ham
2) Ofuani chinedu – @themainchris_
3)Abiodun olamide – @midey_millz
4) Adewale salau – @kvngsalau
5) Badiru yewande – @dudulewami
6) Willams Emmanuel- @willz_Jamal
7)Campbell eniola- @_fikunmi
8)Fatimehin ikeoluwaa – @_arifay
A week
after the orientation program we changed our brands logo and gave it a
NEW Look.. After that we organized a contest and the two winners with
the highest likes Omarion Veracruz ( @omarioncruz_ and Amuni Damilola (
@bee_horla )emerged First Ever FacesOFDopeLasu. By march the 11th we had
their first official shoot with designers like @Annexkayclothing
@kibk_couture @house_of_willz ,Make up artists like @dudulewami
@cecilemakeovers , Lasu’s top Photographers @kvngsalau @adeoyeonisemo
@ortegahbenjamin. We the team members also had our first shoot with Dope
lasu tees, We invited Dynamixmagazine to cover the shoots and interview
the FacesofDopeLasu. That evening the first Dope Lasu account
@dope__lasu (2underscores) with over 8000followers got hacked for the
first time. The whole team was upset.. We had planned a lot of shoots
for our FacesOfDopeLasu but we had to push them aside and focus on the
account. After 1 weeks we opened Our Second account and named it
“@Dopelasu” within two weeks we had gained over 6000 followers. On the
3rd week of April 3rd 2016 The account got hacked again, It was a Sunday
morning. That week the team came together and we agreed to open an
account but keep it on the low for a while and think about ways to
secure the account .Eventually after the exams by the second week of MAY
we unveiled the 3rd dope lasu account using “3underscores” and we are
grateful to all our loyal followers and supporters. Lasuites and non
lasuites who have been with us throughout. We appreciate the love. As at
June 1st 2016 we had over 12k followers and we would be celebrating our
One year anniversary on June12. One year of Growth, Love, Tough times,
honestly it wasn’t easy but we came through. The team has been so
strong. They never for once thought about giving up.
Through
the rough times they stood and were very strong.. We are more than a
team, We are a Family, To everyone who has been Supportive. THANK YOU, your love keeps us going, as June 12 is around the corner. We are excited about our 1st anniversary. Dope lasu At one.
Not just because we have achieved a lot but because we have achieved
our aim. Which is to promote, connect and unite lasuites. Within one
year we have become ambassadors for several brands such as Wema bank,
campusmovers Nigeria, 9jacampusstyle , campushubb, nigeriacampusconnect
,sulcataent . We are also media partners for Nigerian students fashion
designers week 2016, Willywears fashion show, Powerball 2016, Mlk events
( organizers of miss lasu this year) . With over 27k followers on our
3accounts.. Wouldn’t you rather celebrate with us? Celebrate with the

PRESS CONFERENCE RELEASE
by
OLAJIDE, Abiodun Mayowa
(Chairman, MISS LASU Planning Committee)
Lagos State University is known to commit herself, recently, to reviving the social life and make the Campus more social. This is why the Students' Union and University Management have, overtime, been on a mutual position whereby students can get their social life. One of this is the MISS LASU Contest.
However, mismanagement and a little bit of carelessness has allowed previous organizers to always flop and embarrass the concerned parties and we have cases at hand to the effect. But the present Lagos State University Students' Union led by Comrade Sekoni Tayo is making sure that LASU students thrive at their respective and several social lives.
Therefore, in a mission re brand Lagos State University and at a time where Lagos State University's students are proclaimed to be Proud, MLK EVENTS and PROMOTION is proud to announce that the search is on for a new Queen for Lagos State University.
We welcome every young Lady from Lagos State University to enter into the search and we, hereby, wish to inform all interested Ladies from Lagos State University that the Entry form would be sold for a meager sum of Three Thousand (3000) Naira.

LASG Partner Google To Train Lasuites, Others.
The Lagos State government has announced a collaboration with Google to provide digital skills training for 50,000 students of Lagos State tertiary institutions.
Announcing the pact in his office, the special adviser on education, Mr Obafela #Bank-Olemoh, said the three-month training would be open to students of the Lagos State University ( #LASU ), Lagos State Polytechnic ( #LASPOTECH ), Ikorodu; Michael Otedola College of Primary Education ( #MOCPED ), Epe; Adeniran Ogunsanya College of Education ( #AOCOED ), Ijanikin; and the Lagos State College of Health Sciences, and other interested members of the public.
“We are trying to position our students to function in the 21st Century and digital skills are important to us. The number of students we will be training is 50,000. We are confident that if we give Lagosians skills to complete, they’ll do wonderful things,” he said.
Bank-Olemoh added that students that do very well in the training would be selected as Google trainers and would help the communication company to implement future training programmes.
Country Manager for #Google, Mrs Juliet Ehimuan-Chiazor said the training is coming at the right time given the potential of the Internet to generate income.
“Everyone needs digital skills. It is really important that tertiary institutions incorporate digital training into their curriculum.
“A recent McKenzie report states that from 2013 to 2020, the Internet would contribute 300billion dollars to the GDP. This training will span three months leveraging on the ICT facilities in the various institutions,” she said.
Mrs Ehimuan-Chiazor said the modules will focus on gaining the basic digital skills, how to run a business online, social media, online marketing, and the like.
Mr Taiwo Kola-Ogunlade, Communications and Public Affairs Manager, Google, said free registration is open for the training on a designated website, www.digifyafrica.com.
Okebukola: Fagbohun And Ninalowo's Appointments Help Restore LASU Glory
The former National Universities Commission Executive Secretary, Prof.
Peter Okebukola, has commended the Lagos State Governor, Akinwunmi #Ambode, for the restoration of peace at the Lagos State University.
The governor’s fresh interventions, Okebukola said, would lift the ivory tower to loftier heights.
The professor of Science Education, who spoke to our correspondent on the sidelines of the 20th convocation of the university, noted particularly that the action of the governor would end the “festering unrest” in the 33-year-old ivory tower.
He identified the five-year single term for vice-chancellor; 70-year retirement age for full professors and 65 years for others as well as the provision of infrastructure as some of the fresh measures that would bring lasting peace to the university.
Okebukola added that the appointment of professors 'Lanre #Fagbohun and Adebayo #Ninalowo as the #VC and the Chairman of the Governing Council respectively would help to restore the university’s lost glory.
Meanwhile, #Okebukola has disagreed with his successor, Prof. Julius Okojie, on the call for the establishment of more universities by the Lagos State Government.
Okojie, represented by the Executive Director, Quality Assurance, at NUC, Prof. Chiedu Mafiana, had during the convocation urged the state government to establish more universities.
Okebukola, who said time was not ripe for the call, rather canvassed the expansion of LASU’s carrying capacity to admit more candidates.
He advised the governor, “With the inclement economic state of the nation and its federating units and with the huge financial investment needed to achieve your vision for LASU of being the best university in Africa in the shortest possible time, venturing into setting up more universities will be biting more than the state can chew at this time.
“I believe the spirit of the #NUC advice is to expand access to the teeming youth who are unable to gain university admission by encouraging states that have the financial muscle to establish more universities.
“I am unsure if the “thickness” of the financial muscle of Lagos State can support more universities, hence my advice is to shunt part of the financial muscle to elevate #LASU to be the best in Nigeria and among the top five in Africa during your administration.”
