Lasuite Camera Seized, Asked To Pay N2500 For Taking New LASU Emblem

Ayilaraseun Deprince is student of the Economics department in LASU. He got a shocker today when he elated seeing the new #LASU plague below
Below is his outcry from Marshalls over the incident:

#shockoftheday got to school this morning seeing the transformation; I was happy not knowing that they are still some surprises that are yet to be unveiled.

Brought out my camera to take some shots suddenly a #marshal came and said I can't use my camera unless I pay #2500

I was like sir I'm a student, the next thing he forcefully collected my camera from me saying I must pay #2500 before I can collect my camera (after letting him know I'm a student)

This is a shame to the institution why must I pay #2500 before I can snap a picture yet they will say the NUTRW should be erased from Lagos pls what's the difference between what they are doing and what NUTRW are doing in the street of Lagos pls the authority should look into this matter please dis is unjust.

Lagos Government announces “Ready, Set, Work” Scheme at LASU Convocation

Governor Akinwunmi Ambode of Lagos State on Thursday said that a programme to enable fresh graduates become job creators, rather than job seekers, had been instituted in the state.
Ambode made the disclosure at the award of Post Graduate Diplomas, Masters and Ph.D to 2,525 students of the Lagos State University (LASU).
He said that the capacity building initiative, tagged “Ready, Set, Work” was targeted at final year students in the state’s tertiary institutions.
“This programme will enable successful students get internship placements in high ranking corporate organisations. At the end of the programme, those with best business ideas will get linked to major investors and the Lagos State Employment Trust Fund. I therefore enjoin all our final year students to avail themselves of this opportunity,” he said.
Ambode, who sued for continued peace in the institution, said government’s vision for the school was to groom the next generation of leaders who would be job creators and employers of labour.
He promised that LASU would be made a preferred destination for research and human capacity Development in Nigeria.
“I am glad that the repositioning of LASU, a conscious initiative of our administration and driven by the present council and management, is making a positive impact. The University has begun to reap benefits of efforts in this regard with its recent ranking as the best state University in Nigeria and 11th overall best among scores of public universities in the country,” Ambode said.
He congratulated graduants, saying they had been found worthy in learning and character for the award of the various degrees.
Ambode also inaugurated the Faculty of Science, Law, Vice Chancellor’s building and LASU radio.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that retired Justice Adesola Oguntade was also installed as the fourth Chancellor for the Institution.

  • Meet Michael Arowosegbe, LASU Best Graduating Student: I Reluctantly Chose LASU

24 year old Michael Arowosegbe is the best graduating student at the 20th LASU Convocation. He scored 4.86 Cumulative Grade Point Average in Biochemistry to beat over 17, 000 candidates the university produced in the 2013/2014 and 2014/2015 academic sessions

He hails from Awe, Oyo State and is the son of one of the institution’s ad hoc security men, Mr. Joseph #Arowosegbe, who was disengaged due to an accident sustained while on duty on the campus.

In his emotional speech, the young Arowosegbe‎ described the case of his father as pathetic, saying he sustained an injury which affected his back and head.

    He said,
“Many of my friends and colleagues never knew that he once worked as a contract staff, attached to the Campus Marshal. I witnessed a students’ protest while in 100 level, where he was stoned. I could not cry.

“As if that was not enough, another incident occurred on November 9, 2012, which changed his life to this day. He had an accident on a bike, while on duty on campus, where he hit his head and back against the university gate. He could not move any of his limbs initially.

“Some even thought that was the end of him, and that it might affect my academics because there was no succour from the appropriate authorities, But, glory be to God, he is recuperating and I am today a graduate.”

“I reluctantly chose LASU as my second choice in 2011 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination and I almost ignored the post-UTME that year because I had already written that of OAU, where I scored 278.

“So, I thought with that score, together with a UTME score of 287, I was on my way to study Medicine and Surgery, so I felt the Biochemistry I chose in #LASU was to fulfil all righteousness. Today, look at where that choice has brought me.”

Professor #Fagbohun, who spoke at a press conference to herald activities of the university’s 20th Convocation, where no fewer than 17, 695 graduands would be graduating, said the university has continued to put every elements of excellence in place, in terms of quality learning, researches and infrastructures to ensure that students are well baked to compete anywhere in the world.

According to the Vice Chancellor, “The focus of our administration is on cultivating innovation, critical thinking and the realization of global citizenship. We have been working, hand-in-hand, with other critical stakeholders to achieve these.

#LASU as a part of the world cannot be indifferent to the never-ending competitions among institutions across the globe. This is one of the reasons why we have made this 20th Convocation ceremony a priority.

“You will agree with me that the university has since distinguished herself in the comity of universities in Nigeria, with ground breaking academic researches, trainings and production of quality human capital. A particular case worth mentioning is that of 26-year-old Aderomola Adeola, a graduate of the university who recently bagged a Ph.D from the University of Pretoria, South Africa.

Little wonder, LASU remains the University of choice in Nigeria. Our projection, however, is to be among the first 100 rated universities on the African continent in no distant future.”

Fagbohun, who however thanked the Governor of Lagos State and Visitor to the University, Mr. Akinwunmi #Ambode for his huge support to the institution in terms of provision of infrastructural facelift, among others, revealed that Ambode, would be commissioning three projects during the convocation ceremony, on Thursday, May 26, 2016.

He listed the projects as the Faculty of Science Building; Faculty of Law Twin Lecture Theatre and the LASU Radio, 95.7FM.

He also said that on Governor Ambode’s order, the school’s road and drainage networks have been rehabilitated, adding that the lighting up of the university in line with Ambode’s Light-up Lagos project is in progress.

He added that “there will be a Convocation Lecture at the University Auditorium Complex, on Tuesday, May 24, entitled, ‘Empowering African Languages for Socio-Cultural and Economic Development in the 21st Century. A Case for our Languages at Home and Abroad,’ to be delivered by Prof. Akinloye Ojo, a Professor of Comparative Literature and Director, African Studies Institute, University of Georgia, Athens, Georgia.

“The Award of First Degrees and Diplomas in all Faculties would hold at the University Auditorium Complex on Wednesday, May 25, while the Installation of Chancellor and Award of Higher Degrees would hold on Thursday, May 26, 2016, at the University Auditorium Complex.”

However giving the breakdown of graduands, the Vice Chancellor said: “The Full Time programme had 6,241, where seven bagged First Class, 1,040 bagged Second Class (Upper Division), 3,271 bagged Second Class (Lower Division), 1,575 had Third Class and 206 had Pass. For the External System, 8,784 would be graduating, where One bagged First Class, 1,016 bagged Second Class (Upper Division), 6,990 bagged Second Class (Lower Division), 767 had Third Class and 10 had Pass.

“There are 173 Diplomas graduands, where five had Distinction, 44 had Upper Credit, 72 had Lower Credit, 10 had Credit, 11 had Merit and 31 had Pass. For the Higher Degrees, 2, 497 graduands would be convoked.”

However, pointing that LASU was witnessing a positive turn around, Prof. Fagbohun said in the last four months in office, the administration has been able to develop five strategic imperatives “which have been restoration of peace to this great institution; to foster high-level scholarship and create new knowledge; to consolidate on our previous gains; to create an environment that will enable us attract funds to meet implementation of our programmes and activities to make our institution a valued partner to the Lagos State Government, the Nigerian nation and the international community.”

LASU To Offer Automatic Employment To Her 1st Class Graduates

The Vice-Chancellor said that 2,497 would be convocated at the Higher Degree Programme.

He also promised that the university would offer the first class students automatic employment. “ While the second class upper students will also be considered afterward.’’

#Fagbohun said the graduands have fulfilled the requirements for the award of the university’s ‎ degrees.

The vice-chancellor said the 20th convocation would be special, “because it was coming at a time that the university was experiencing a dramatic-turn around.’’

Fagbohun said that the installation of the university’s chancellor would also take place during the ceremony. “The positive turn around within the university was the handiwork of the Lagos State Government under the leadership of Gov. Akinwunmi #Ambode.

    WAR OVER LASU GNS RESULTS

ABOMINATION : GNS DIRECTOR DISRESPECTS LASUITES, CALLS US HOOLIGANS AND UNSERIOUS STUDENTS.
AND OF THE GREATEST LASUITES 00!!!!!!
    ARTICULATE LASUITES OOOO!!!
    EVERKONIGBA LASUITES OOO!
    And of the GREATEST KAAABAAA!
    ARTICULATE KOOOBOOOO!
    EVER REASONABLE KAABAA-KOOBOOO!!!!
    NO 1, NO 2, NO 3.......
    THUNDER........ FIRE!!!!!!!!
    KULU.... KULU... TEMPER!!!!
GREATEST LASUITES! Yesterday was a day to remember. Having received hundreds of complaints from LASUITES with regards to the GNS issue, we filed a petition against the University Management and the Director of GNS. Subsequently, a meeting between the University authorities and the SUG representatives was called. At the meeting, we made our positions clear about the issue only for the GNS Director to open his uncouth mouth and started raining insults on LASUITES. In his words, he said : "LASU students are unserious with their studies, they are hooligans. I don't even recognize the Students' Union as it never existed during my own time and even till now. Am an academia, and I don't discuss with unserious students". He also went ahead to push a student who tried to explain things to him. As a matter of evidence, we have an audio record of all what he said.
Can-Never-Be-Intimidated LASUITES! The GNS Director rained all these insults on us despite the fact that, GNS results sheets at various faculties today, has shown that students who scored as high as 94/100 were given Zero instead. Instead of this violent GNS Director, to apologize and resign from his position as he is evidently incompetent, he went ahead to rain insults on us and even tried to beat up one of us for expressing himself. "He called us 'unserious hooligans' despite the fact that we scored as high as 94% and they still uploaded Zero on our profile out of their shameful incompetence". Our CGPAs has been damaged, our hearts are broken, we are pained, but yet................................. we were insulted!
GREATEST LASUITES! as President Tayour right said today : "We are the most militant students in the whole of Sub-Saharan Africa, the East of Limpopo and North of Arabia. Our patience has been exhausted and our anger can no longer be curtailed". Ever Militant LASUITES! The Yorubas would say : "Eni toba fi ori ja ile agbon, odidandan ki agbon ta". It is also well and widely known that : "The Dog that dares mock the Lion, will end up being consumed by its own actions". LASUITES are ready to strike anybody mercilessly!!!
Flowing from the above, we hereby call on all LASUITES, from all Faculties, to troop out massively in their thousands, to Campus on Wednesday and converge at Abe-Igi,Faculty of Arts for a MASS ACTION against the oppressor by 8am.The Mass Action is aimed at expressing our displeasure against the GNS results and the insults we received from the GNS director. The battle line has been drawn and we are no longer interested in any roundtable discussion.
INDOMITABLE LASUITES! Tell a friend, to tell a friend, that on Wednesday is the day of freedom and liberation. A day to fight the oppressor and tell the proud peacock that LASUITES can never be insulted or intimidated over their own rights.
Wednesday is the day, Abe - Igi is the venue and sending the oppressor out of campus is the mission as we've declared him a 'persona non grata'.
"Oba to n dari afefe, Dari oppressor senu trailer, Oba to n Dari afefe".
    FREEDOM COMETH BY STRUGGLE!
    ALUTA CONTINUA, VICTORIA ASCERTA!!!!!

LASUSU REJECTS GNS Results : ISSUES A 72-HOUR ULTIMATUM.

The Lagos State University Students' Union has condemned in strong terms, the shameful conduct and marking of the GnS examination papers. In this light,we will like to make our positions clear.
1.For the past 3 semesters, so many students are yet to see their GnS results with no rational reasons given for such actions. The GnS Director out of his incompetence and arrogance, will ask affected students to write down their names, promising a rectification which they will eventually fail to do. LASUSU will not allow her memebers to waste the ink of their biro in writing any names this semester. Therefore, we demand an immediate withdrawal of all unacceptable (0points and 2points); GnS results from our members DPU profile, after which we want a transparent, credible and sensible remark of all these scripts.
2.It is more than evident that they don't truly mark GnS scripts, some set of persons out of their unfortunate incompetence and laziness will just sit down and allocate desired marks to innocent students. We can't tolerate this injustice any longer.
    3. The President of the Students' Union hereby demands the immediate resignation or removal of the Present Director of GnS as it is audible to the deaf and visible to the blind, that the present Director of GnS is incompetent, unapproachable and arrogant. We demand his immediate removal as he is obviously far from being competent.
    4. On behalf of over 15,000 LASU students, the 26th LASUSU Executive -In- Council led by Sekoni Taofeek Tayo issue a 72-hour ultimatum to the University management and to the Director of GnS studies to see to our demands which we've stated in clear terms above. If they fail to reason with the major stakeholders on campus, we will be left with no other option than to declare a MASS ACTION against the University Management and the Director of GnS studies this coming Wednesday, 18th of May,2016.
We urge all LASUITES to put up their reasonability for now while their MILITANCY should be on red alert because we are ready to battle the oppressors.

SEE THIS POST BY A SAD PARENT OF A LASU STUDENT

    MASS FAILURE IN GNS
It is disheartening to note that my son was also given 0 in GNS 201 and excel well in his core subjects. I think the parents forum inaugurated by former VC should be invigorated so that concern parents can also have their say on the issue of sadist lecturers who are trigger happy awarding 0 to students as if the students will be in competition with them at the Labour market after graduation. The fight should not be for lasusu or students alone. There should be a process for recalling of exam scripts and remarking. The lasusu executives should ensure that the exam scripts are brought out and verified to marking sheet which was collated for input at DPU to students profile. Majority of students cannot score 0 in GNS courses. This must be thoroughly brought to the attention of school Management and investigated.

LASUSU Working On Shuttle Operations, To Arrange Temporal FMS/FSS Kitchen.

Since the halt on #LASUSU external shuttle operations, the students' union have put in place certain measures to ensure our shuttles resume operations as soon as possible.

The first of these measures includes, the formation of a 7-man committee that is charged with the responsibility of reforming the shuttle sector as it is evident that the system has been hijacked by some selfish and corrupt persons who are not even legitimate students of #LASU.

As part of the reforms, relevant authorities has demanded a proposal from the SUG on how it wants to run its SHUTTLE OPERATIONS outside the campus in an accountable, profitable and transparent manner.

This committee alongside the efforts of the SEC & SPC will ensure we flush out corruption and irregularities from the sector. The committee will also ensure funds gotten from the #SHUTTLE OPERATIONS are properly utilized for students' benefits such as scholarships.

We urge all #LASUITES to remain calm and resolute as we will all surely enjoy the dividends of our actions, eventually.

The Students' Union President, during a conversation with the University authorities, today, agitated for the swift building of new stores at the demolished #FMS kitchen site as students will soon resume for the new semester.

In this light, haven met with all necessary stakeholders, temporary stores will be built in coming days while the building of new ultra modern malls continues.

UPDATE ON THE LATEST HAPPENINGS ON CAMPUS BY OUR HONOURABLE P.R.O SHE-SPIRE

    And of the GREATEST LASUITES!
     ARTICULATE LASUITES!!!
Based on the present happenings on campus, it is essential for the Students' Union to give its members the latest information.
    LASUSU WORKING ON SHUTTLE OPERATIONS.
Greatest LASUITES! Since the halt on LASUSU external shuttle operations, the students' union have put in place certain measures to ensure our shuttles resume operations as soon as possible. The first of these measures includes, the formation of a 7-man committee that is charged with the responsibility of reforming the shuttle sector as it is evident that the system has been hijacked by some selfish and corrupt persons who are not even legitimate students of LASU. As part of the reforms, relevant authorities has demanded a proposal from the SUG on how it wants to run its SHUTTLE OPERATIONS outside the campus in an accountable, profitable and transparent manner . This committee alongside the efforts of the SEC & SPC will ensure we flush out corruption and irregularities from the sector. The committee will also ensure funds gotten from the SHUTTLE OPERATIONS are properly utilized for students' benefits such as scholarships. We urge all LASUITES to remain calm and resolute as we will all surely enjoy the dividends of our actions, eventually.
    TEMPORARY ARRANGEMENT FOR FMS/FSS KITCHEN.
The Students' Union President, during a conversation with the University authorities, today, agitated for the swift building of new stores at the demolished FMS kitchen site as students will soon resume for the new semester. In this light, having met with all necessary stakeholders, temporary stores will be built in coming days while the building of new ultra modern malls continues.
LASUSU AGITATES FOR INDIVIDUAL PASSWORDS ON LASU D.P.U.
The 26th Students' Union Executive-In-Council led by Sekoni Tayo has urged the University Management to improve the privacy and security of LASU DPU by ensuring all LASU students have their own unique passwords to their DPU profiles. This is aimed at ensuring privacy, security and accountability in the DPU system. As far as the Students' Union is concerned, making over 10,000profiles porous to easy access does not conform with global practises, and as such the Students' Union, has made a reform in this system, a priority.
GOVERNOR AMBODE TO VISIT LASU THIS MONTH.
The Executive Governor of Lagos State, and the visitor to the University, Governor Akinwunmi Ambode will on Thursday, 26th of May,2016 visit the University for the Convocation ceremony and commissioning of various projects. We urge all LASUITES to come around and give the Governor a warm reception as a show of gratitude for all the numerous projects going on in LASU. It is pertinent to reiterate that, the projects came to life after the Students' Union had written several letters to the State Government urging them to invest more resources in LASU. LASU STUDENTS' HANDBOOK WILL SURELY BE REVIEWEDhttps://www.blogger.com/blogger.g?blogID=7778929321678645361#editor/target=post;postID=4642584851035807683.
The 26th Students' Union Executives has found some rules and laws in the Students' hanbook excessive and laughable. Consequently, we agitated for a review of these rules. The University management agreed to a review. However, this has not been done due to the fact that LASU presently has no Deputy Vice Chancellor on Academics. The review of the Students' Handbook is a prerogative of the DVC(academics) and as such, it is impossible for it to be properly reviewed when the office of the Deputy Vice Chancellor on Academics is vacant. We are however following events closely as we will ensure a swift and transparent review as soon as we have a new DVC on Academics.
LASUSU TO ATTEND NAIJA VISAGE INTERVIEW SESSIONS.
As part of the efforts being made to ensure; our members have access to adequate information and get updated on the Union's progress, the Union Spokesperson, Abinde Motunrayo(SHE-SPIRE) will tonight attend an interview session organized by the moderators of LASUITES online platform, Naija Visage by 7:30pm. The interview is aimed at analysing more issues to the students' populace as well as answering the numerous questions of students.
Flowing from the above, we urge all LASUITES to remain calm and resolute. we earlier promised LASUITES that, we will doggedly ensure a smooth, uninterrupted calendar, and crisis free tenure. In this light, we implore everyone to ignore the propaganda and political innuendoes of some embittered persons. The 26th LASUSU Executive-In-Council led by Sekoni Tayo will never negotiate the interest of LASUITES ,talk less of selling it for anything. Similarly, we will never be forced by anyone to shed any blood. If such persons remain in LASU, and still think they can plunge our dear University into an avoidable crisis, then such persons will have to wait forever.

READ THIS OPEN LETTER BY A CONCERNED LASUITE

AN OPEN LETTER TO THE VICE CHANCELLOR OF LASU
I would like to congratulate you, Prof. Olanrewaju Fagbohun on your appointment as the 8th substantiative Vice Chancellor of the prestigious Lagos State University. Your appointment deserves a laudable commendation because it is the first of its kind when the best applicant will emerge as VC and running the first 5yrs single tenure.

I first salute the manner in which you have been paddling the affairs of the university through your deliberate and conscious efforts in transforming and rebranding the institution.

Prof. you have been entrusted this responsibility at a very crucial time when the university is in deep coma and is gasping for survival.

Cutting all craps and going straight to the point, avoiding every form of side attractions and putting on hold every form of sentiments I might have had and may still have as some burning issues bothering my mind that need to be redress as regard the harmattan semester.

Just to let you know Sir, am a Freshman writing from the Faculty of Science based on what is known, obvious and crystal clear from my personal insight.

The orientation programme held between 17th and 18th February, 2016 championed by the WEMA Bank of the institution was a commendable one. Though they served us of EXPIRED ‘Pop’ soft drink (Exp date; 14th January, 2016), which might have resulted to stomach ache, constipation or food-poisoning which I think less than 3% of the students bothered to knows about.

Though lecturer may not appreciate clapping in class for commendation which students view as a quick way of letting the lecturer know they are saturated. But in the same vein, not less than 15% of the lecturer care to know if he students really understand what is been taught.

In the lieu of this, lecturer need to standardized their delivery mode by introducing dynamism and strategies that will commit students to learning and attentiveness rather than fixing lectures for weekend, giving assignment that would not be marked and working behind schedule among others.

The delay in opening and early closure of the MBA Hall, though not for science department as gave room for students to wander about which lead some to falling the prey of the SENIOR BROTHERS whose issue of cultism has assumed alarming proportions in the citadel of learning. We need a better and conducive lecture theatre that is accommodative Sir.

LASU’s transformation is deem to seize if it does not reflect from the grassroots. I must mention here specifically that the Non Academic Staff (Lab Attendant) in the Zoology department demanded N500 each from 100 Level medical students for either embarking on field project which they never did or for upgrading 15 marks to each students as a result of general low performance in their practical as reported.

It is also in LASU that I first saw Admission List still coming out 5 weeks prior to first semester examination, then how will the new intakes cope with series of lecture and practical missed?

Sir, we (Freshmen) were robbed the opportunity to apply for various scholarship offer due to lack of both Matriculation number after 3rd month of resumption and School ID Card, then I asked myself what makes me a bonafide student of LASU ? Then the matriculation ceremony was held a
month prior to examination without the institution's formal orientation programme. It is never too late.

The examination date came like a misery, due to inconsistency of the provisional time-table which left non-library user average student type of me in despair, as there is delay in printing of examination slip before signing by HODs and collection of docket in the morning of the first paper which I think is inappropriate.

During the exam, I observed series of misconduct like invigilator giving preferential treatment to carry over students maybe because they have been settled, examination not different from classwork in terms of invigilation, students(staylites) bringing already filled OMR sheet to the exam hall, lecturer and/or invigilator been harsh and cursing students due to lateness among others. Then I asked, how is examination malpractice best eradicated?

It is worthy of note that the only gigantic 4 unit course CHM 101 has many flaws in it exam paper like; answers to questions not provided in the options, question details (value and constant) not given where required coupled with many typographical errors.

Solving the ever rugged PHY 101 under tension like never before with over 45 calculative questions which solution of one may not be solved in less than 100 seconds. Am very sure the smartest student can never solve more than 40 questions with certainty before he or she gamble answers to the rest. Hence, I await the miracle that will make 70% of the students offering the course to have 3point or above in the 60 minute tussle.

On the last note, publishing the report of the 227th statutory meeting of Thursday 19th April on the last day of harmattan exam (4th May 2016) directing all students to proceed on recess and resume on Thursday 19th May 2016 is an act of disorganization which might have destabilize students in one way or the other in as much as it doesn't concur and also contradict the institution's newly revised and approved calendar.

At this juncture, I will be lifting my pen to let the ink dry as I await the result of the examination to speak good of all.

I know the VC will do what would be of interest to the student and I believe after going through this, will gallantly swing into action to acknowledge justice.

Good News?? All Federal Universities To Pay The Same Fees – FG

The Minister of Education, Adamu Adamu, has said the Federal Government will harmonise tuition in all federal universities to stop arbitrary charge of fees by some university authorities.
Adamu, made this known while fielding questions on the News Agency of Nigeria Forum in Abuja on Tuesday.
He said, “Since the protests started, we have summoned the authorities of the universities and sat down with them and we are going to harmonise everything.
“Because, I think it is N45,000 that is the maximum that should be charged. I know in some places, there has been other arrangement.
“But the ministry would harmonise everything and I believe there will be no more protests over fees.”
The Universities of Lagos, Ibadan and Port Harcourt were recently shut down following students’ protests over increase in fees, lack of water and power supply on the campuses.
Adamu said that the Federal Government was discussing with management of the affected universities, adding that efforts were also ongoing to introduce harmonised fees for all federal universities.

LASU seeks arrest of shuttle buses operating outside campus

The Lagos State University (LASU) has called for the arrest of commercial buses operating outside the campus in its colour and logo.
The university’s Acting Dean, Students Affairs Division, Dr Oluwafemi Obayori, said it was obvious that the buses were hiding under the school’s image to perpetrate illegality, such as evasion of levies and non-renewal of vehicle licence. The drivers he noted are also not licensed.
Obayori told reporters at the Ojo campus yesterday that the LASU Students Union’s branded buses had neither official nor unofficial connection with the university.
According to him, the constitution of the students union does not provide for the operation of commercial buses outside the campus.
“We are alerting the relevant authorities including the Vehicle Inspection Officers (VIO), Lagos State Transport Management Authority (LASTMA) and the Federal Road Safety Commission (FRSC). Also, the Nigeria Police should take note of the new development,” he said.
Obayori said the only LASU-branded buses known to the Students’ Union and the university management were the “campus shuttles” operating within the campus and serving the university community.
“The operators of such LASU Students Union buses outside the campus are hereby disclaimed.
“They do not expressly or by way of any implication, have anything to do with the university, its officials or lawful students union, ‘’ he said.
Obayori said the illegal operators contended with legally-recognised transport unions in collecting dues and levies.
Their activities, he said, had become sources of rancour, snowballing, often times into fracas.
“A case in point was the unsavoury event of February 16 involving members of the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW), the illegal operators and some LASU students,’’ he said.
The acting dean said students engaged in transport racketeering or touting would be punished, adding that the penalty for engaging in transport racketeering is rustication as spelt out on page 79 of the university Code of Conduct as contained in the Students Handbook.
Obayori urged the students to be law-abiding, as the management would not condone illegality or provide haven for criminals.
He said the management had informed the students union of its decision.
According to him, the shuttle operators in LASU were presently paying N10,000 monthly to the students Union but a new Memorandum of
Understanding (MoU) was being processed and would soon be in use.

SUSPENSION OF SUSPECTED CULT MEMBERS IN LASU

The Lagos State University (LASU) has suspended four students for cult-related activities and improper conducts.
This is contained in the university’s official bulletin obtained by the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Saturday in Lagos.
The bulletin quoted the institution as saying that conducts of the suspended students could cause breach peace on the campus.
The bulletin said the University’s Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Olanrewaju Fagbohun, took the decision on behalf of the university authority.
It said the decision to suspend the students was taken by Vice-chancellor, who invoked section 28 of the law establishing LASU.
The statement added that the four students allegedly abducted a fellow-student from his hostel for initiation.
It said the affected students were suspended from the university pending their appearance before the Students Disciplinary Committee.
The affected students are: Shola Rapheal-Olatoye, Department of Management Technology, Saheed Shittu of Social Science Department, Rapheal Anifowose of Economics Department and Muritala Babajide-Ikuforiji, Faculty of Education.
“In view of this development, the suspended students are not to participate in any academic or social related activities of the university until the suspension is lifted,’’ it stated. (NAN)
