Photo of the 21-year-old Nigerian student who was brutally attacked by Indian mob in shocking video

Last week LIB shared a disturbing video that emerged amid rash of racist attacks on Africans in Greater Noida, Delhi, in which a man was kicked, punched and beaten with steel by a large group at a shopping mall.

Th young man identified as a 21-year-old Nigerian student Endurance Amalawa and his brother Precious, were wandering through a Ansal Plaza when the phone rang with warnings from a friend, “Hurry home, mobs of Indians are attacking Africans across the area."

The brothers, who came to India to seek better education and work opportunities, rushed out and tried to hail an autorickshaw, just as a mob of Indian men saw them and ran towards them.

The Amalawas ran back inside the mall but dozens of screaming men followed them. Precious Amalawa hid inside a changing room but Endurance got dragged out. They thrashed him with stools, bins, blows, and whatever they could grab. No one tried to help Endurance or stop the attack. One man even took a selfie with the violence in the background.

"They attacked him with bricks, sticks, belts," 23-year-old Precious said  on Friday as he sat, still stiff with shock and fear, in their apartment.

Endurance’s body was dotted with medical staples on his temple, his cheek and both arms. Precious’ arms were covered in cuts and bruises from when the mob chased him from his hiding place by shoving sharp objects through the changing room’s thin walls.

The violence started on March 24 when a teenage boy disappeared in Greater Noida, outside New Delhi, and angry relatives claimed he’d been killed by his Nigerian neighbors. A mob of people began searching the area for Africans, with some accusing kidnappers of eating the boy.

The boy returned home Saturday morning. He died later that day of what police said was a drug overdose.

Five men who had been charged with kidnapping and murder were let go within hours because police could find no evidence.

But rumors about cannibalism swirled and mobs began to attack Africans across the suburb. The last attacks were reported Wednesday. There were reports of mobs pulling Africans out of taxi cabs and autorickshaws and assaulting them.

The African Students’ Association in India asked Africans across the capital to remain alert and especially warned those living in Greater Noida from stepping out at all.“All African Students Studying in Greater Noida are hereby instructed to stay at home as the situation remains volatile,” the statement said.

The association has been arranging food and water for African students in Greater Noida as most of them hide at home.

Police say they have arrested five men for attacking the brothers and are searching for others. Police patrols in the area have been increased after Foreign Minister asked that the local government ensure the safety of Greater Noida’s African population.

People Shouldn’t Have Séx Until They Are Married – Juliana Olayode Aka Toyo Baby

Background
I grew up in Ogba, Lagos, with my family. I have four elder sisters and a younger brother. Growing up was so much fun and there was never a dull moment. But I also had to do a lot of house chores because I was the last girl.
Education
I don’t want to disclose that for now for personal reasons. As a child, I had a lot of ambitions and at some point, I wanted to become a pilot. I also wanted to become a lawyer and newscaster.
Acting
While growing up, I never thought that I would become an actress even though I was a drama queen.
Jenifa’s Diary
I was on my way to church when a friend invited me for an audition. The first time I auditioned, I didn’t do it well but the judges gave me another chance. I wasn’t expecting them to get back to me but they informed me some months later that I had gotten the role.
That was my first time on set and I had a lovely time acting alongside experienced thespians like Yemi Solade and Tina Mba. Working with Funke Akindele-Bell0  and playing ‘Toyosi’ in Jenifa’s Diary has been a beautiful experience.
Funke is very versatile, hard-working and a disciplinarian. She always takes her time in anything she does because she always wants to come out with the best.

Challenges
The challenges I have had so far have to do with working with people who don’t share my values. Most times, I reject scripts because I cannot play some roles because of my beliefs. Already, I have acted in movies like Couple of Days, Where Does Beauty Go?, Rivers Within, Click Now, and some others.
Other interests
I like singing and I’m part of the church choir. Though I don’t have plans to release any song for now, it could happen in the future.
Fame
Nothing much has changed about me, but I’m more concerned and aware of  my environment now. There are also lots of people who want to take pictures with me and they don’t understand that sometimes, I could just be very tired.
However, I wouldn’t trade that for anything. It has taught me how to relate better with people whether I’m in a good mood or not. Before now, I could go wherever I wanted but now, I have to be more careful.
Virginity
I am a strong advocate for sexual purity and it goes beyond the screen for me. That is who I am and I’m not doing it for any other reason than that. Years before I began acting, God told me that
He would open doors for me and that wherever I go, I should always talk about Him and sexual purity. I belong to Mine Ministry which advocates sexual purity and we have our World Virginity Day on the second Saturday in June every year.
Virginity Day isn’t only for virgins but for all who stand for sexual purity and know that virginity isn’t a thing of the past. There are lots of immoral things on social media which attract a lot of traffic but it’s sad that when you talk about something like sexual purity, people look at you like you’re doing something weird.
I must confess that it has not been easy for me. But irrespective of what goes on around me and in the movie industry, I have resolved to stand tall and stay true to my values.

Relationship
I am in a relationship now but I wasn’t in one when I started advocating purity. Sexual purity isn’t all about being in a relationship or not.
A lot of people might think that I’m saying I’m sexually pure because I wasn’t in a relationship but there are some people that could come up to you and say they don’t want to have a relationship with you, that all they want is sex.
There will always be pressure and it’s not an easy process but it’s good to stick to one’s values. Sometimes, one may even be tempted to give it all up but I believe that people shouldn’t have sex until they’re married. I don’t need to talk about the kind of man I like because I already have a man I love.
Fashion
I like anything fancy and decent. I believe you don’t have to reveal any part of your body to be fashionable. You can be all covered and still look very good. There is no fashion item that I’m crazy about but I like accessories though I don’t really wear them.
However, I appreciate it when I see it on people.
Relaxation
I hang out with friends or go to see a movie. I also like dancing and that’s how I unwind.

OLOFOFO CARES.

You Are Inciting Crises In LASU, ASUU-LASU Tells Fagbohun, Plead With Ambode To Rescue.

Members of the Academic Staff Union of Universities #ASUU, at the Lagos State University #LASU, have accused the Vice Chancellor, Prof. Lanre #Fagbohun of inciting crisis in the institution.

In an open letter to Governor Akinwunmi #Ambode, the union alleged that the he was plotting to discredit #ASUU by incriminating their active members.

The letter by the chairman, Dr. Isaac #Oyewumi and Secretary, Tony #Dansu, a copy of which was obtained by The Guardian yesterday, accused Fagbohun of seeking the governor’s support through blackmail.

They alleged that the #VC was pursuing an agenda of dismissing the union’s leadership by prolonging investigation into the spurious allegations against them, to prevent their promotion to professorial cadre.

The leaders also accused him of promoting a culture of impunity, by delaying the payment of Earned Academic Allowances as stipulated in the agreement between ASUU and the Federal Government in 2009.

Also included in the issues is the conclusion of the amendment of #LASU law to cover a single term for all principal officers, as stipulated in the University Miscellaneous Provisions Amendment Act 2009, as amended in 2012.

Describing the happenings at the institution as an invitation to chaos, the union appealed to Ambode to forestall the looming crises in the interest of the university’s community.

The union alleged that the VC was using some professors to create a malicious propaganda against its leaders.

According to the letter, the non-implementation of the single term for all principal officers could create a crisis in 2018 when the tenure of the current leadership would expire.

Meanwhile, according to the spokesperson of the institution, Mr. Adekoya #Martins, the VC is a fair leader who is working in the interest of all and does not belong to any camp.

Though he claimed not to have seen the letter written by the union, he said he would “let the VC know about it and respond appropriately.

Accolades Showered On GNS Director, Prof. Abiodun Akinpelu, For Making Exams Digital

The jinx is broken, what seemed impossible is now part of history. As a result of his burning desire to take LASU to the zenith of tertiary education in Nigeria and the world at large, Prof. Abiodun #Akinpelu was handed a second term as the Director, Centre for General Nigerian Studies #CGNS. He was the Director before the appointment of Prof. Lanre #Fagbohun as #LASU #VC in 2015. Having understood the wealth of experience and knowledge in possession of the professor ,the VC decided to retain the veteran director in the well sought position.

Barely two months into his second term in office, Prof. Akinpelu has continued his transformation of the Centre for General Nigerian Studies (CGNS) by introducing Computer Based Testing (CBT) for #GNS examinations. This welcomed development is a first of its kind in the institution and is in line with the "Digital LASU" movement of the Fagbohun- led administration. It is pertinent to mention that a series of tests has been conducted to determine the viability of the new mode of GNS examination and these have all been successful.

The CBT mode of examination has also been adopted by the Department of Science and Technology in the Faculty of Education. The aforementioned department is set to write its first computer based examination (EST 305).

The road to success is neither smooth nor easy. A digital LASU was initially labelled an impossibility by some stakeholders ranging from some members of the management to students. Thankfully, all doubts have now been cleared. The initiative was initially termed a white elephant project that will consume a lot and yield little.

The school, as proposed by some professionals, needed over 1000 computers to execute such project. Prof. Akinpelu surveyed the school terrain and made do with the available computers, which are now doing the magic. This action has helped to keep expenditure within the school's budget.

The most astonishing of all is the brains behind the computers - the ICT personnel, who are now optimally utilized. These set of professionals have been there for decades with their know-how lying fallow. All thanks to Prof. he reignited their beliefs and reassured their competence.

Finally, for the students who have been clamouring for immediate release of their scores after the exercise, this may be impossible for now as it may have detrimental effects on some students who are yet to girt up their loins.

I therefore hope to see improvements like this in all the departments of the institution. The development of LASU is my joy.

Congratulations to Prof. Biodun Akinpelu for a landmark achievement, congratulations to the VC and his unflinching team. Congratulations to LASU for the success.

To my colleagues writing examinations, I wish you success in your examinations. All the best!
